School and sports physicals
At Alliance Pediatrics® of Fort Worth, we provide School and Sports Physicals to ensure your child is healthy and ready to participate in athletics, marching band, and other extracurricular activities. Many schools require a Pre-Participation Physical Evaluation (PPE) annually per UIL rules.
When should my child get a sports physical?
Each school district may have different requirements, so we encourage parents to check with their child’s school. Many districts require that these exams be completed after April 1st but before the start of school in August to ensure eligibility for the upcoming school year.
What to expect during a sports physical
A sports physical is designed to assess your child’s overall health and ability to safely participate in physical activities. It includes:
- Medical history review – We’ll review your child’s medical history, including past illnesses, injuries, and any family history of heart conditions.
- Physical examination – This includes measuring height, weight, blood pressure, vision, heart, lungs, abdomen, and musculoskeletal function.
- Assessment of strength & flexibility – Depending on the sport or activity, we may evaluate joint flexibility, strength, and posture to identify any risk of injury.
- Recommendations – If we identify any concerns, we may provide recommendations for further evaluation or precautions your child should take when participating in sports.
How to schedule a sports physical
- During a well exam – If your child is due for a well-child checkup during this timeframe, we can complete the sports physical at the same time. Please fill out the history portion of the PPE form before your visit.
- Separate sports physical appointment – If your child does not need a well exam, a sports physical appointment will be required. These visits focus only on completing the required PPE form and do not address unrelated medical concerns.
Important: When checking in, please inform our staff if your child needs a sports physical and provide the completed PPE form.
